Helicopter

'Daedalus' the helicopter is our special, exciting and unique project. Developed in parallel with our usual work, it's the result of several years research and testing. It's a large radio-controlled helicopter, but unlike any other. With a two-man 'crew' (pilot and cameraman) on the ground and using video assist, the shots it can capture are unique and simply unachievable in any other way.

Think of it as a floating camera platform, unrestrained by any attachment to the ground. It's more versatile than a steadicam or jib, and more creative than a full-size helicopter. That makes it ideal for shots which can make jaws drop, like flying over vehicles, under bridges, between chimneys and even inside large buildings.

Its Mini-DV camera is mounted in a turret that pans through 180° and even tilts to look vertically downwards - ideal for flyover shots. On-board video recording means the footage is immune from microwave signal break-up.

Daedalus can hover, fly forwards at up to 60mph, fly backwards, sideways and of course straight up too. It can  fly at zero feet over any surface, land or water, and range is limited only by the pilot's eyesight. A transmitter sends live pictures back to the camera operator, so shots can be framed accurately. Daedalus is available by the day or half-day, depending on location.

Most production companies can film – but how many can fly?
