Filming and editing

Filming and editing are the building blocks of a video, and account for most of the cost. So it's important that they're properly directed and controlled. Working from a detailed script, filming can be completed in the most efficient order, saving valuable time moving equipment and minimising inconvenience.

Autograph's filming is performed by experienced lighting cameramen using professional digital formats, normally DV-CAM. Additional lighting or sound facilities are supplied where necessary. All footage is timecoded and carefully logged for efficient editing.

The average video contains hundreds of edits, and a fraction of a second can make a difference to the watchability of the final programme. Powerful computer systems are used to capture the material and assemble it as required. Brightness, colour balance, sound levels, words - all these are checked and re-checked as the editing process continues.

Some video companies expect you to come and sit through the edit for days telling them what shots to put where. We think that's dereliction of duty (it's our job, not yours). Because our scripts are so well engineered, every shot already has its place. So there's no need for extra (and costly) steps like 'offline editing'. We finish the editing properly and bring you a draft copy of your new video for approval.

As a result of this attention to detail, very few changes (sometimes none) are needed to the finished programme. That means we can get straight on with duplication for your deadline without any faffing about.

That's how Autograph Media brings them in on time and on budget. See the Showreel here.
